The Naked Gun is a 1988 American crime comedy film directed by David Zucker and based on the Tv Series Police Squad. The film stars Leslie Nielsen as the police lieutenant Frank Drebin, Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalbán, George Kennedy, and O. J. Simpson.
The film features fast-paced slapstick comedy, including many visual and verbal puns and gags.
Released on December 2, 1988, The Naked Gun was a critical and commercial success, which led to two sequels: The Naked Gun 21⁄2: The Smell of Fear (1991) and Naked Gun 331⁄3: The Final Insult (1994). Upon its initial release, The Naked Gun received critical acclaim, and has since been regarded as one of the greatest comedy films of all time. It was voted the 14th best comedy of all time in a Channel 4 poll. The film was selected by The New York Times as one of The Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made. It was named the 7th Funniest Comedy Ever on a poll by Empire.
